Not Getting My Hopes Up

I guess there is some small chance that now that Senator Specter has given up trying to placate the loonie right-wing in the Republican Party, he might actual put his votes where his mouth is, and actually start supporting Democratic initiatives. I'll believe it when I see it.

Specter's pattern has been to talk a good game, and then vote the GOP line whenever push comes to shove. He's with the Democrats until they need him, and then he's gone. Will that pattern continue, or will his calculations of the political expediencies change?

I can't yet see this as a big win for the Democrats, but it sure puts egg on the face of the GOP. Let's hope that, in his new party, we actually get some Democratic voting out of old Arlen.
