Bush's Farewell

After 8 years, it probably isn't worth the time to critique that steaming pile of rhetoric the still-President gave us tonight. But I do just have to say one thing.

Presidents are hired to make tough decisions. That's the job. If you aren't willing to make tough decisions, you shouldn't apply for the position.
You may not agree with some of the tough decisions I have made. But I hope you can agree that I was willing to make the tough decisions.
I'm not willing to give Mr. Bush credit for just making tough decisions. He keeps talking about how he's made the tough decisions, as if that was somehow worth credit, in and of itself. But, isn't making tough decisions a minimum requirement for the job?

Suppose the trash collector leaves trash all over the street. Is it OK if he says, "You may not like the way I've collected the trash, but you have to agree I've lifted the heavy cans?"

In fact, some people run for the office because it involves making tough decisions. Asking for credit for making the tough decisions is a bit like asking for credit for living in the White House. "You may not agree with some of the decisions I've made, but I hope you can I agree that I was willing to go live in that old house in Washington, DC."

It's just ridiculous.

Oh, and while I'm thinking of it:
If America does not lead the cause of freedom, that cause will not be led.
Seriously? What the heck? Like there are no nations on the face of the planet who care about freedom? Britain? France? No one at all to lead the cause of freedom if we don't? Huh?

Oh, and did he actually say:
As the years passed, most Americans were able to return to life much as it had been before 9/11. But I never did. Every morning, I received a briefing on the threats to our nation.
Really? A briefing every morning on the threats to our nation? Wow. You mean, like a President's Daily Brief? Like the ones you got before 9/11, like the one on August 6, 2001?

Is he just nuts? Does he think we've all forgotten about that? He actually thought mentioning his daily briefing would be a good thing to do as a sign of how he couldn't return to life as it was pre-9/11? Who wrote this speech?

Hurry up, Tuesday. I can't be done with this guy fast enough.
