I'm Afraid to Jinx It
But, after several nights of watching speeches from Denver (even through the filter of the cable newscasters who, for some reason, believe that what they have to say is more important than actual speeches), I'm beginning to think ...
well, ...
I'm thinking that, if the Democrats can spend the next two months showing the Obamas and the Bidens to all those people who haven't really been paying attention yet, and they can show people that the John McCain they remember isn't the same John McCain who's running for office, we might just win this thing.
And that would be A Very, VERY Good Thing.
(By the way, when did Tom Brokaw become a Republican spokesman?)
The secret weapon revealed tonight: Momma Biden.
For all those who haven't been able to watch it, this is the age of the Internet. The party has videos up on the convention website (though at this moment the video server claims not to work with my OS and browser, for some reason). Copies are all over 'the tubes' as well.
Tonight the Big Dog hit one out of the park. I hear John Kerry was surprisingly good too, but I missed it, so I'll be catching it online. I'll also be looking online for last night's speech from Montana Governor Schweizer.
Republican Jim Leach gave a good speech, too, I hear, though almost no one knows about it. (Apparently it's only news when a long-time member of one party speaks at the other convention if it benefits the Republicans. Go figure.)
Biden's delivery tonight was a bit off, but the text was a barn-burner.
And, just in case you might have missed it amidst all the political pageantry, tonight a historical event actually happened. A major political party nominated a black man to be President of the United States.
Pretty damn awesome.
