How It's Done

Since Katie Couric's video editors seem a bit confused, perhaps they should go take some lessons from Jed Lewison, of The Jed Report. Perhaps the 'fairest' expression of a candidate's position is merely an accumulated record of his statements over the last several years, in speeches, in Congress, to various interviewers. Sure, it might take longer than network news shows want to spend between commercials, but still, it's the presidency at stake. Isn't it worth 9 minutes and 29 seconds?

(For those interested, there are annotations identifying the dates, but you have to watch the video at YouTube's site to see them.)
