Vote Lamont!
Why, among other reasons, I'd be voting for Ned Lamont if I still lived in Connecticut:
He simultaneously undercuts a fellow Democrat, acknowledges that the President is breaking the law, volunteers to fix it for him, and furthers the administration's assertion that it's OK to violate both black-letter law and the principles of the Constitution to protect us from "terrorists."
Has he absolutely no party loyalty? Couldn't he just keep his mouth shut? (This is the man who was our vice-presidential candidate? Al Gore's biggest mistake, including that beard-and-sweater thing.)
Several bloggers are in friendly competition to send financial support to the Lamont campaign. The Joe-mentum is consistently undercutting Democratic initiatives, and he seems to be proud to be the "go-to guy" for press quotes to prove the Democratic party is a bunch of back-biting fools. This makes his defeat a matter of importance for Democrats nationally. I'll add my mite by pointing you to the page set up by fellow Northwestern blog firedoglake.
But Sen. Joe Lieberman, D- Conn., voiced some misgivings and hinted that he’d vote no on the Feingold resolution. In the word of that cut-out Guiness guy on TV, "Brilliant!"
“Frankly I’d prefer to spend our time on figuring out ways to bring this very important program of surveillance of potential terrorists here in the United States under the law…. I disagree with the Bush administration’s legal judgment on this one…. But this is a critically important program to the prevention of terrorist acts here in the United States.”
