Scooter Libby guilty on 4 of 5 counts. 1 count of obstruction of justice, 2 of perjury, one of making a false statement. I believe this makes him the highest ranking felon in the administration yet convicted.
The former Chief of Staff for the Vice-President knowingly lied to the FBI and a grand jury investigating the White House's exposure of a covert CIA operative working to prevent WMD proliferation.
Sentencing on June 5.
Update: Just to review: Libby told the authorities that he had learned about Valerie Plame from Tim Russert. He didn't. He heard about her from his boss, Dick Cheney. Why did he hear about her from Cheney? Because Dick Cheney wanted Libby to help attack Joe Wilson, Plame's husband. Why did Cheney want to attack Joe Wilson? Because Joe Wilson had published an op-ed in the New York Times that told the truth about Saddam's non-existent purchase of uranium from Africa.
Rather than honestly and responsibly leading our nation, Cheney drove a campaign of untruths that got us into a war in Iraq, then tasked Libby to participate in a defense of those untruths. In a defense of his reputation and flawed policy, he compromised CIA assets actually involved in the defense of our nation. Libby lied to hinder the investigation of that.
