A Gift Idea

My birthday is coming up. I've been thinking about breaking down and finally getting an iPod. Apple made that both easier and harder by revising their lineup recently. Do I want video? What plug-in gadgets would I want? Will they fit the new nano? Will it just become an excuse for more expensive techy gadgets? Lots of pondering. No decision.

Some choices, on the other hand, seem much easier. This new book by pundit and blogger Bill Scher seems like something one should have. Especially if that someone was just recently thinking a lot about how near Vancouver is, and also wondering just how the people who got out of Germany in time knew when to leave.

Reliable sources are saying that it's the most straightforward, clear and inspiring presentation of liberal, i.e. good ol' American ideas in quite some time. The holidays are coming, folks, maybe you know someone, or a few someones, who might want this book. Maybe if enough of us read this book, and act on it, it'll be safe to stay put.

After all, since I have ancestors who fought to be free of a British crown, it'd feel a little weird having a Queen's face on my money. And while I'd rather have the essence of democracy decorated with vestiges of monarchy than the essence of monarchy with only the lingering trappings of democracy, my true choice would be to have my native country, the one my ancestors wanted, back in the hands of those who care for her.

Wait! Don't Move to Canada: A Stay-And-Fight Strategy to Win Back America by Bill Sher.

Update: My lovely wife has just given me a copy. Please send one to the other people you know who might be thinking about moving north.
