Nutmeg Perspectives
As a born and bred Nutmegger, even if I am an expatriate, I have a few thoughts on yesterday's primary result, particularly about Lieberman's move to run in the general as an independent.
Perhaps, if Joe Lieberman had been as prepared and quick to respond to losing votes in the Senate as to losing the Connecticut primary, the voters would have chosen him.
Perhaps, if Joe Lieberman had been as willing to disrespect the choices of the Republicans in the administration and Congress as he is to disrespect the choice of Democratic voters in his home state, the voters might have chosen him.
If his much ballyhooed 'bipartisanship' seemed to include robust defense of his own party's interests, not primarily defense of the other party's, it might have carried more weight. In order to have two parties, you first need to have one.
Where was this energy and creative problem-solving when Alito was being confirmed? Why does Ned Lamont get more flak from Joe than George Bush does?
