Um, er, Condi?

May 15 Remarks at the American Embassy Baghdad by Secretary of State Condolezza Rice:
You see, this war came to us, not the other way around. The United States of America, when it was attacked on September 11th, realized that we lived in a world where (inaudible) gather and that we lived in a world in which we had to have a different kind of Middle East if we were ever going to have a permanent peace. It just could not continue to be a Middle East in which dictators like Saddam Hussein paraded around, lived in great palaces, and yet tortured and oppressed and just made mincemeat of this wonderful infrastructure here in Iraq.
"Came to us??!"

Excuse me, Dr. Rice, how many Iraqis were on those 9/11 planes(pdf), again? That's right, just as many as the number of nuclear weapons that could have been made with those aluminum tubes you and Dick were babbling about, which is none. And that whole ultimatum about us going in "at a time of our own choosing" if Saddam and his sons didn't surrender, I guess I just dreamt that?

Now, instead of a Middle East in which Saddam Hussein parades around, living in great palaces, and tortures and oppresses, and just makes mincemeat of the wonderful infrastructure, we have a Middle East in which the US Government parades around, living in great palaces (um, like the one this speech was given in), tortures and oppresses, and makes mincemeat of infrastructure. (How are those repairs in Fallujah coming, by the way?) All at a huge cost in blood and money, with continuing "payments" as far as the eye can see. Talk about your "permanent peace!"

"This war came to us." Right. Sure. Uh-hunh. The same way the Germans were "stabbed in the back" in WWI. Damn those Iraqis for attacking us! They deserve everything they've gotten!

(Could someone please get Dr. Rice a nice dose of Thorazine, please, and see that she's escorted to a safe place? Thank you.)
